We're looking for our next Chair

2 March 2026

The Access to Justice Foundation is searching for a new Chair to lead our board at an exciting moment in our growth.

Over the past 16 years, we’ve grown from a small distribution vehicle into one of the UK’s most respected legal advice funders, making over 1,097 grants to 380 advice providers and currently overseeing £39 million worth of grants in place. In 2024, we secured a landmark £30 million grant from the National Lottery Community Fund to deliver our flagship programme, Improving Lives Through Advice, supporting free social welfare legal advice across England.

We’re consolidating our position as the prescribed charity to receive undistributed damages from opt-out collective actions, we’re delivering funding programmes with the Ministry of Justice through to 2029, and we’re building for the future.

Now we need the right person to help lead us through what comes next.

What we’re looking for

Our Chair will bring strategic leadership and governance experience, a genuine commitment to access to justice, and the ability to work collaboratively with our board, staff, funders, and partners. We’re looking for someone who shares our belief that everyone deserves access to legal advice , and who wants to help us make that a reality.

Our board includes 14 trustees with a wide range of skills, and we’re supported by our members The Law Society of England and Wales, the Bar Council, CILEx and the Advice Services Alliance. Our next Chair will step into a well-established, well-governed organisation with a strong track record and real momentum.
