Exploring Opportunities to Secure New Funding for Free Legal Advice

Join us on 15 September to learn how you can influence initiatives that could unlock new funding streams

There are currently several important opportunities that could shape future funding for free legal advice services across the UK.

On Monday 15 September (10-11:30am), we’re bringing together key stakeholders to discuss these initiatives, explore some of the funding models that are being proposed, and share the key messages we will be highlighting in our responses.

Why your engagement matters now

Two major policy initiatives are currently underway that need your input:

The Access to Justice Inquiry: Part of the inquiry is examining how additional funding models could be implemented to increase funding for free legal advice services. Your evidence and responses are important to highlight recommendations for sustainable new funding streams.

Department for Business and Trade (DBT) Call for Evidence on the opt-out collective actions regime review: The DBT is actively gathering evidence on the collective actions regime, including the extent to which undistributed damages from collective actions could support access to justice. This is an important chance to share evidence on how these funds could support redress, particularly for marginalised consumer groups.

What we’ll cover

The Forum will provide:

  • An overview of additional funding models currently under exploration,
  • Current insights into two key schemes already being widely discussed: undistributed damages from collective actions and interest on lawyer client account schemes,
  • Details on upcoming engagement opportunities, and
  • Practical next steps for engaging and/ or supporting engagement with these opportunities.
