Reflecting on 2023

The Access to Justice Foundation has coordinated a series of legal walks around the country for many years. They are an opportunity for the legal community to come together in order to raise money for the advice sector in their local area.

We are so grateful to our committed team of Walk Organisers for all of the work they do – the Walks would not be possible without them.

We’d also like to recognise the work of our local  Access to Justice Foundation Committees in Scotland and Yorkshire, who coordinating, supporting, and facilitating the Legal Walk events across their areas.

We would like to extend a special thank you to all those who organised, sponsored, participated in, and raised funds for Legal Walks in 2023. The walks this year have collectively raised over £85,000 for free legal advice in local communities, and this would not have been possible without you. It is truly wonderful to see the profession come together to support local communities in need and take a step towards a society where everyone has access to justice.

2024 and onwards

We are really excited to hear everyone’s plans for fundraising events in 2024. More than ever, we need the support of the legal community to help free legal advice charities support people feeling the brunt of the ongoing cost of living crisis.

In 2024 we will be using a new framework to support the Legal Walks outside of London and the South East, so we can continue to facilitate these events alongside the rest of our fundraising work around Pro Bono Costs Orders and Residual Client Balances.

We will be providing open access to our new Walk Organising Pack which will provide anyone interested in organising an event with all the resources they need to run their own Legal Walk event.

The Pack will contain everything we’ve learned about what it takes to run a successful Legal Walk event for your local community and will include template documents that will enable you to manage, promote, and deliver an amazing event.

Where possible, we will put you in touch with our local Access to Justice Committees that can support and coordinate your event with others happening in the area.

We will also continue to provide the insurance which enables the Walks to take place but we ultimately aim to empower local legal communities to have full autonomy in how they organise their Legal Walks to ensure the events are delivered in the way that works best for their local community.

We will be launching our Walk Organiser Pack early in 2024, along with a form to register your Legal Walk. We look forward to continuing to work together to increase access to justice nationwide!
