Welcoming our new Chair, Gavin Mansfield KC

We’re pleased to announce the appointment of Gavin Mansfield KC as our new Chair.

Gavin was appointed as the Bar Council’s nominee to the Access to Justice Foundation trustee board in 2021 and replaces Dame Maura McGowan DBE as Chair. He is Head of Littleton Chambers where he specialises in employment and discrimination law. He sits part-time as Deputy High Court Judge in the King’s Bench Division and Administrative Court, as an Additional Judge of the Employment Appeal Tribunal, and as a Recorder in the Crown Court.

“I’m delighted to have been elected as Chair of Trustees at the Access to Justice Foundation.” Gavin stated when commenting on his appointment “Since joining the organisation I’ve been involved with a range of income generating and grant making activity which has improved people’s access to social welfare legal advice”.

Gavin’s appointment comes at a momentous time for the Access to Justice Foundation as we embark on our five year Improving Lives Through Advice grant funding programme which will use £30m funding to support the delivery of free legal advice to people, places, and communities most in need. These people are most affected by job loss, chronic ill health, domestic abuse, disability, debt and poor or no housing and they turn in their thousands to specialist advice centres for help in resolving crisis.

Gavin said “I’m looking forward to working with my colleagues on the board and with the staff team as we strengthen our strategy and look forward to our next chapter.”
